The new line-up of Family Hub refrigerators is expected in the United States by May 2018 and there is no update on the price yet.
Ahead of its big press event, Samsung held a preview event at CES where it announced Bixby would be coming to its Family Hub fridge and lineup of 2018 Smart TVs. That also sounds like a way for brands to buy their way onto your smart fridge.
With four new models coming later in 2018, Samsung brings the total to 14 Family Hub refrigerators, though as of now they all cost over $3,000.
Samsung says Bixby "enables easier interaction between the TV and its users, thanks to its intuitive UX, and comprehensive voice analysis capabilities". These include syncing up food storage with meal preparation, keeping family members better connected and organized, and providing enhanced entertainment. Think about being able to control your smart television, washing machine and locks all from one hub.More news: Sydney temperatures skyrocket, nearly break record
In addition to Bixby, Samsung's Smart Hub gateway is getting an app overall, ditching the appliances app for SmartThings integration - an open platform that works with hardware from Philips, Netgear, ecobee, and many more companies, putting all your connected gear under one app. Owners will also be able to browse new apps on the fridge, like Pinterest and Buzzfeed's Tasty. "We've been listening closely to current users and created a new Family Hub that's even smarter and more advanced than before", said John Herrington, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America.
Aside from food and grocery management, the Family Hub offers personalized recipes for everyone in the family.
Samsung provides a View Inside app for smartphones that will show you what's inside your Family Hub fridge, even when out shopping, but this year introduces intelligent learning app Meal Planner too. The new Family Hub also features AKG Premium Quality Sound Speaker for sound that is deep in bass and rich in mid-range2.
