Xiaomi Mi A1 becomes the first smartphone in the Mi family to receive the Android Oreo update. The version is officially known as Android O 7.12.29 and it's made especially for the Xiaomi Mi A1. The new Android version started rolling out as a progressive over-the-air (OTA) update on December 31, fulfilling that promise. The smartphone was launched under Google's Android One programme with Android 7.1.2 Nougat back in September and was promised to receive an update to Android Oreo by the end of 2017. This makes it the cheapest smartphone, now available in India, to have the latest version of Android. The Beijing-based company last month announced it was looking for beta testers to get feedback on the new update from a small group of users.
According to an LG Customer Service representative, the company will release the Android Oreo update for the LG G6 by February 2018. The hardware along with a stock Android Oreo software means you're going to get a smartphone that runs smoothly and will likely not show signs of aging as quickly as other Android handsets in this category.
Holding Global HMD planned in the near future to upgrade the firmware of its budget smartphone Nokia 2 to Android 8 Oreo, but eventually changed his mind. Just make sure that your Mi A1 is updated to Android version 7.12.19.

The Mi A1 in December received a permanent Rs 1,000 price cut in India, making it available at an attractive price of Rs 13,999. Expect animations to be smoother on Oreo compared to Nougat while common Oreo features will be included like picture-in-picture, autofill, notification dots, and smart text selection. A user can just swipe in the middle of the home screen and the app drawer will appear. The smartphone will be updated immediately to 8.1 Oreo, and it cannot but rejoice.
The Night Light mode is also available on Mi A1 with Android Oreo, which users can activate from settings. This makes the movie and video watching more fun as the display is sharp and clear.
The Notification Channels on Mi A1 will allow the apps to categorise, prioritise and adjust the visibility of each type of notification posted by the app. Users will also be able to snooze notifications.
The Mi A1 features a dual rear camera setup comprising of a pair of 12-megapixel sensors (one wide-angle and one telephoto lens). So the phone will now offer to dial a phone number or offer directions on Google Maps whenever a restaurant or a business name is highlighted.
