Gabriel Jesus suffered MCL injury during draw with Crystal Palace

And after Gabriel Jesus went off injured today, Guardiola was once again asked about signing Sanchez next month.

Initial suspicions were that it could be a cruciate knee injury, similar to those suffered by team-mates Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan, and he is reported to have left Selhurst Park on crutches.

And the club said in a statement on Monday: "Manchester City can confirm Gabriel Jesus suffered a medial collateral ligament injury during the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday".

"Thanks god it is not very bad and I won't have to go through any surgery procedure. Happy new year! 2018 is going to be my year!"

It is the latest injury blow for Jesus who was forced to sit out for two months shortly after joining City past year with a fractured metatarsal.

Kevin De Bruyne also left the pitch on a stretcher and the club hasn't yet given an update on his fitness, but the Belgium global was later seen walking back to the dressing room with two of the club's medical staff.

The remaining outfield players opted to congratulate one another closer to the halfway line instead, leading Sanchez to give Lacazette a puzzled look.

"I am not a psychologist to know what is in his head, if he is short-term or long-term". It is what it is.

"That tells you there is a divided dressing room". But the league is the league.

"In two days, we have another game (and) after that we have meetings".

The forward has had a mixed season thus far and despite recording eight goals and three assists in 18 appearances for Arsene Wenger's men, that's some way off the form of last season.
