Apple's battery replacement programme for older iPhones goes live in India

Anyone who has an iPhone 6 or newer and wants to get their battery swapped at a discount is in luck as Apple has chose to launch its replacement program ahead of time.

A week after the acknowledgement, Apple posted a message on its website last Thursday saying it could have handled the battery issue better and been more forthcoming with its customers.

Apple has said that replacement batteries are available at any Apple Service Centre of iCare branch in Thailand.

In the US, Apple reduced the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 - from $79 to $29. When the performance of the lithium-ion batteries on older iPhones degraded, they caused the iPhones to shutdown unexpectedly. We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. "Initial supplies of some replacement batteries may be limited".

Today, the tech site BGR also took Apple to task for the company's "far from perfect" apology.

For now, it appears that Apple's efforts to correct its past mistakes might be too little and too late. And that is when batteries are new, so when phones only a few years old start to degrade in longevity and, in this case, performance, it is a less than ideal situation. To counter this, Apple issued the update which downgraded the processor performance to ease the load on the battery. By not recognizing the battery-related performance problems earlier, Apple also basically acknowledged that it doesn't test new releases of iOS on iPhones with older batteries.

Clearly, Apple is striving to put the entire controversy behind it firmly and seeking to rebuild trust among users who had begun to suspect that the firm was trying to force them to ditch old devices and upgrade to newer and more costly models.
