The Crimson Tide reached their third straight title game with a 24-6 win over Clemson in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and will be looking for their fifth national championship in the past nine seasons when they face SEC foe Georgia on January 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The last time the Crimson Tide were an underdog was at Georgia on October 3, 2015, the teams' last meeting.

Georgia squeaked past Oklahoma in double-overtime at the Rose Bowl and Alabama is now dominating Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

There would be no drama in the nightcap.

Returning starting QB Jalen Hurts played previous year versus Clemson and scored in the final minutes to go ahead, before Deshaun Watson answered with a last-second passing touchdown.

It's not official yet, but next Monday's College Football Playoff national title game is going to be an All-SEC showdown.

First, Payne picked off Tigers quarterback Kelly Bryant when a hit forced a weak throw. Payne rumbled 21 yards on the return. Payne slipped open near the right pylon and hauled in the touchdown pass.

Da'Ron Payne - a 308-pound defensive lineman - had a 1-yard touchdown reception moments after an interception, and Mack Wilson returned a pick of his own 18 yards for a score to lead Alabama (12-1).

After a disappointing three-and-out to open the game, Alabama's offense opened up the playbook on its next series, driving down the field 47 yards on 10 plays before senior kicker Andy Pappanastos put in his lone field goal on a 24-yard try with 5:24 left in the first quarter.
