Less Than 1000 ISIS fighters Remain in Iraq and Syria, Coalition Says

At the moment, there are about 750 militants in Al-Shaddadah and 350 in Al-Tanf on the Syrian-Jordanian border, according to Gerasimov, who said the Russian military has been watching the training at the Al-Tanf base for some time.

"The time for the coalition to leave Syria will be when we have defeated ISIS [Daesh] in the areas that we control", Gedney said. Russian Federation has backed al-Assad but has partially withdrawn its troops out of the country. 'But after they are worked with, they change their spots and take on another name. "Their task is to destabilize the situation".

Iraq and Syria have both declared victory over ISIS in recent weeks, after a year in which the two countries' armies, a range of foreign allies and various local forces drove the fighters out of all the towns and villages that once made up the militant group's self-proclaimed caliphate.

In November, Russia's defense ministry claimed it had evidence of the US supporting ISIS.

"Coalition and partnered forces engaged and defended the ISIS attack with direct fire before destroying enemy assault vehicles and the remaining fighters with multiple coalition airstrikes", the coalition said in a news release.It is not known how long the battle lasted.
