Actor Salman Khan topped the 2017 Forbes India Celebrity 100 list for the second consecutive year. This isn't the first time Salman has defeated SRK. Another film that contributed to his last year's earnings was the Sooraj Barjatya-directed Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in late 2015. According to estimates of the day 1 collection of the film, the romance-action-drama has been able to mint around Rs 36 crore at the box-offce. His last release Tubelight whose budget was Rs 135 crore, could earn only Rs 119 crore. Moreover, he has close to 20 brands to his name for his endorsements.
Now, Salman will earn more as his recently-released movie, Tiger Zinda Hai, is winning hearts. Thus, Salman is again the favourite to bag the top slot next year. The Bollywood's Badshah also retained his position at number two with Rs 170.5 crore and also India's skipper Virat Kohli at third spot with 100.72 crores.
The King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli took the second and the third spot respectively. Having beaten Lionel Messi in Forbes' Top 10 list of the most valuable celebrities in 2017, Kohli has proven that he is also a global brand, set to achieve greater glories in the future. As in previous years, Bollywood and cricket rule the list with 46 actors and 15 cricketers. On the other hand, the Bollywood actors list fall down from 35 to 33, lowering their cumulative income by 13 percent from the a year ago. Both the films together grossed Rs 239 crore. Khiladi Kumar retained his position at number 4 while Sachin Tendulkar jumped to 5th position with his Rs 82.50 crore revenue.
The CEO of Forbes India commented on the list and said that they had changed the method of calculating the earning, and based them on what the celebrities earned in a year, than on how famous they were, internationally or nationally. There is one woman in the top 10, Priyanka Chopra, at No 7 with Rs 68 crore. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is placed at number 8 with INR 63.77 crore to his name in the year 2017.
