Newcastle end four-match losing streak with win at West Ham

Struggling Newcastle secured their first league win in 10 games as they came from a goal down to beat West Ham in a thriller at London Stadium. That was something we had talked about, the importance of getting away from the bottom. Sometimes when you are in a bad run, things go against you.

Despite Marko Arnautovic firing West Ham into the lead on six minutes following a bad mistake by Henri Saivet, the north east club showed all their fighting spirit to secure their first three points in nine Premier League games and ease their relegation worries.

Henri Saivet was handed a shock return to an injury and suspension-hit Newcastle midfield after nearly two years since his last league appearance. But Henri Saivet equalised with a fine strike and Mo Diame and Christian Atsu netted within 10 second-half minutes to give the Magpies a 3-1 lead.

Saivet made an immediate impact, although not the desired one when he gifted the ball to Arnautovic in the centre of the pitch.

"We can't be missing them, we need to get a little bit more reliable when it comes to penalty kicks".

The Hammers should have levelled matters three minutes later when Michail Antonio was fouled in what referee Lee Mason deemed to be just inside the area by Ciaran Clark and Yedlin, and a penalty was awarded.

In the absence of regular penalty-taker Mark Noble, Andre Ayew stepped up but his stuttering run-up was followed by a weak penalty which was palmed away by Elliot.

However, Saivet redeemed himself nearly immediately, lifting a 25-yard free-kick over the West Ham wall and inside Adrian's near post to bring his side level after 10 minutes.

Andre Ayew pulled a goal back after 69 minutes, having earlier had a penalty saved, but the Magpies won for the first time since October. We have been playing quite well some games, losing out to a single mistake, so it was tense at the end.

"Him and Diame did really well".

"It's a great day for our fans, players, everyone".

Asked to summarise West Ham's performance, Moyes responded: "Not a good one that's for sure".

"A totally error-strewn game, Moyes said". We made big mistakes with the first goal. "Mistake after mistake. We then missed a penalty at 2-1 which makes it even more hard".

On Andre Ayew's penalty miss, Moyes said: "It was such a big moment in the game for us".

"If we win today we're talking completely differently about our league position", he stated.
