World Human Rights Day being observed

"The imperialist countries like U.S., Britain and France opposed the call of socialist countries for including rights to labor and rest and social security in the World Declaration of Human Rights, but tried to include the contents of bourgeois human rights documents like the American Declaration of Independence and French Declaration of Human Rights in the World Declaration of Human Rights".

Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on December 10 after the United Nations General Assembly adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Instead, its scope should be widened with civil societies from both countries being included in the process.

"As we enter the 70 anniversary year of the Universal Declaration, it is right that we should honour its achievements and pay tribute to its inspired architects".

The report blamed the US and other "imperialist countries" for hindering the processes of "preparation" and the "adoption" of human rights legalities even after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human rights.

In India, National Human Rights Commission also observes the day on 10th December. For example, education is the most and primary basic human right, but in Pakistan more than 22 million children are out of school. Human rights bind us together through this set of common values and ideals. The United States urges all nations to respect their commitments enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and apply them equally to all.

But, with some politicians in the United Kingdom calling for us to scrap the Human Rights Convention, do we still need them? Global human rights law lays down obligations of Governments to act in certain ways or to refrain from certain acts, in order to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups.

The above report comes in direct conflict with the fact that a United Nations committee in November this year, backed a Japan-led resolution which condemned human rights violations in North Korea.
