New Tomb Raider Game Officially Announced, Taking 'New Approach'

A new Tomb Raider game is coming. That's pretty much the extent of it though.

Our journey together will begin with a major event in 2018.

Part of the reason that today's announcement is light on details is that Square Enix is "taking a new approach this time" with its rollout plan. Couple that with the way the message seems to insist they want to "share" more with us and it's clear that they were dropping a hint at the name. I also find it amusing that a message telling fans that they'll have to wait ends with, "we simply can't wait".

Noticeably, the statement contains seven sentences, with the first letter of each sentence spelling out the word "Shadow".

Tomb Raider has seen a considerable resurgence in the last couple of years, featuring two successful games and an upcoming movie remake (Sorry Angelina Jolie). For fans intrigued by that, you can look forward to a "major event" in 2018 where the reveal will take place. Square Enix refused to confirm the game's existence back then, but are finally ready to start talking. In recent years, announcements have been coming earlier and earlier, sometimes spanning years between the initial announcement and when the game actually launches. In a world where game reveals very often happen full years before the release of a game, this can put anybody on the edge of their seat.
