First Lady Melania Trump Stops by Whataburger While in Texas

First Lady Melania Trump stopped for lunch at the Texas staple Wednesday afternoon while in Corpus Christi visiting victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Second lady Karen Pence and first lady Melania Trump at the Freedom Inaugural Ball on January 20, 2017, in Washington, D.C.

Whataburger, a Texas burger chain, has near mythical levels of popularity in the state. The American chain opened its 1st restaurant in Corpus Christi, TX in 1950!

During their visit, Mrs. Trump and Mrs. Pence are also expected to speak to elementary school students and faculty who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. "We here in the press van, however, are burgerless", tweeted presumably hungry CNN reporter Kate Bennett.

While the First and Second ladies, who were also accompanied by Gov. Greg Abbott's wife Cecilia, stood at the counter to place their order, the Secret Service stood outside. They are here for ongoing help for #HurricaneHarvey. She'll tour their property and see their temporary FEMA supplied housing.

Executive Director Bea Hanson said she first learned about the visit just days ago and is excited to show Melania Trump and Karen Pence behind the scenes operations at the Food Bank.

Whataburger's official Twitter account commemorated the group's visit, tweeting, "Hope it was a great meal!"

Trump and Pence then met with a family in Rockport, Texas, whose home was destroyed in the storm. Harvey made landfall in August and devastated communities in the south of Texas.
