The 405 is closed in both directions from the 10 to the 101. People who live in Mandeville and Sullivan canyons should be prepared to leave their homes, authorities said.
More than 220 firefighters are on the scene, with assistance from a water-dropping helicopter from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
As of press time, the fire is heading from the east toward the Getty Center and toward UCLA.
