Amazon Australia has finally launched... and it's frankly underwhelming

While Amazon has been busy hiring for its music offering since before June, filling the roles of Music Curator, Senior Music Curator, Senior Marketing Manager, and Head of Digital Music, Amazon Music Unlimited won't launch until early 2018. Customers can enjoy free delivery on eligible orders above $49 that are sold by Amazon.

The store opened this morning with 20 product categories, including including books, video games, consumer electronics, sports & outdoors, tools, toys, home improvement, beauty, clothing & accessories, shoes and Amazon's own devices like Kindle E-readers and Fire TV Sticks.

"By concentrating on providing a great shopping experience and by constantly innovating on behalf of customers, we hope to earn the trust and the custom of Australian shoppers in the years to come", he said.

The Australian Financial Review has revealed that shares in Australia-based global delivery logistics software company GetSwift doubled on Friday, 1 December, following the news that it has signed a "master services agreement" with Amazon.

There is, however, no news on whether or not Amazon Fresh will be delivering Aussies their groceries any time soon.

Currently Amazon Australia employs around 1000 people in its Dandenong South warehouse and corporate offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.
