Gamecocks going to Tampa for Outback Bowl, taking on MI


The game will kickoff at noon ET on January 1 from Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Two of Carolina's four losses this season came to teams that are in the Division I national semifinals.

New Year's Day is game day for the Gamecocks.

USC makes their second-straight trip to a bowl game under the watch of head coach Will Muschamp, who improved upon a 6-7 record in 2016 by going 8-4 through November.

This is the second straight bowl game for SC, in its second season under coach Will Muschamp.

This will mark the fourth meeting between the two schools and the second between the two squads in the Outback Bowl. The teams also split two contests in the 1980s, with the Gamecocks posting a 17-14 win in Ann Arbor in 1980, and MI winning by a 34-3 count in Columbia in 1985. The Gamecocks lost in an action-pact, high scoring 2016 Birmingham Bowl to South Florida in overtime 46-39.

"Michigan proudly accepts the invitation to have our student-athletes, coaches and fans experience the Outback Bowl this holiday season", said Warde Manuel, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics at MI. That wiped out a potential Big Ten bowl bid to the Orlando, Fla. -hosted Citrus Bowl, where Michigan State was projected to play.

The Gamecocks will be appearing in their 22nd bowl game in school history. A rematch from 2013, which resulted in a 33-28 win over the Wolverines in what became the breakout game nationally for Jadeveon Clowney, the SEC vs.

The Spartans defeated the Wolverines this season and went on to finish with a 9-3 record. Single-ticket prices start at $80.
