Their new premium midsize crossover QX50 has been redesigned from the ground up - not only is it being built on a new platform with some great new design lines - it will be entering the market with the world's first production-ready variable compression ratio engine - the VC-Turbo.

According to Infiniti it combines the power of a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with the torque and efficient of a four-cylinder diesel engine.

Christian Meunier, Infiniti Global Division vice president, described the QX50 as a luxury crossover with cutting edge technologies, standout design and unrivaled interior space, riding on an entirely new platform. The 2-liter VC Turbo, in-line 4-cylinder engine is able to instantly adjust the piston stroke to transform compression ratios and maximize efficiency, combining what Infiniti calls the power of the traditional gasoline engine with the torque and fuel economy of diesel.

"This uncommonly smooth engine offers customers power and performance, as well as efficiency and economy". The front-wheel-drive QX50 is slightly slower at 6.7 seconds.

The VC-Turbo engine is paired with INFINITI's new XTRONIC continuously-variable transmission (CVT), a "shift-by-wire" system which eliminates the need for traditional gears.

It boasts a version of Nissan's ProPILOT Assist technologies, which allow it to basically go semi-autonomous during highway driving.

Launching a new model promising both fuel economy but performance, at a time when increasingly buyers are turning away from diesel cars, could be just what Infiniti needs to unlock significant United Kingdom growth.

This means the QX50 can drive itself in a single lane on motorways and in stop-start traffic as well as take control of braking, acceleration and steering.

The platform the new auto was built on is lighter and more rigid than before thanks to new high-strength steel in its construction.

INFINITI has flaunted its latest in the luxury mid-size crossover segment - the all-new 2019 Infiniti QX50 - claiming that it is the right vehicle to be had at the time when the segment is booming.

The 2019 Infiniti QX50 follows each and everything that the brand stands for including design, advanced technologies and top of the line performance.

The vehicle can accommodate five passengers and the rear bench seats can slide forward, allowing variable luggage space of between 898-1,048-litres.
