In marches the Christmas season: Several parades kick off holidays

This week ushers in Christmas parades for several localities within our readership area.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 2: 65th Annual "Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade" Park Avenue will remain closed to through traffic from the prior evening's events and will reopen at the conclusion of the Annual Christmas Parade.

And then don't forget the annual Christmas Luminary at Spotsylvania Courthouse at 4:45 p.m. Sunday. Among the massive lineup: marching bands and majorettes, ballet dancers and cheerleaders, pageant queens, the Quantico Marine Corps Band and Santa Claus. - The parade starts at Breckinridge Elementary School and winds through Historic Fincastle (townoffincastle.org; 473-2200). Louisa County Historical Society will also share stories of Louisa's heritage. The public is invited to attend and encouraged to bring cameras for photos with Santa.

Things kick-off Friday with the city of Richmond Hill's annual Chili Cook Off from 6-9 p.m.at J.F. Gregory Park.

This year's parade starts at 6pm on Saturday, December 2 on Riverside Dr. W just west of Bridge Ave. and continues westward to Brock St.in Sandwich Towne.
