Bungie pulls tonight's livestream to confront Destiny 2 criticism

"Tomorrow, we had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of "Curse of Osiris" to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes", the studio told fans today. In its place will be a blog post where "studio leadership" will have an opportunity to talk about the state of the game. Had they moved forward with the presentation as originally planned, you can imagine how that would've gone over. "Destiny 2's post-launch game systems, features, and updates are being designed specifically to focus on and support players who want Destiny to be their hobby - the game they return to, and a game where friendships are made". "Our intention was to keep slower-paced activities as rewarding as high intensity grinding without confusing variations in displayed XP values, but the silent nature of the mechanic betrayed the expectation of transparency that you have for Destiny 2". The major issue is that the onscreen information seemed to suggest that XP was being gained/earned at a normal rate, but that wasn't the case.

Bungie is giving everyone a chance to try out its action RPG, Destiny 2, with a free trial. It's nearly like they completely flipped the issues that they had in Destiny 1 and Desinty 2. Though this is a relatively tame problem on the surface, the outrage stemmed from the fact Destiny 2 has its own version of microtransactions - the hot button issue of 2017. But players soon found out that the solution apparently involved doubling the amount of XP necessary to level up, which only caused a further outcry in the community.

It's all part of a four-tiered effort by Bungie to improve the Destiny 2 experience, including better rewards for advanced payers, more control over rewards, making shards useful, and providing "general quality fixes wherever possible".

You can check out in full the changes coming to the game in the official announcement, with especially detailed reports on what will be available in the December 5 and 12 updates.
