Xiaomi Redmi 5A Launched in India: Price, Specs and More

This is a dual-SIM 4G VoLTE phone, and has a separate microSD card slot. This is a simple and useful feature that integrates all your remotes into your phone. The Redmi 5A - just like the Redmi 4A - is surprisingly thin and light-weight, even more so considering that it packs in a fairly respectable battery (3,000 mAh) inside. The smartphone is available in two variants - 16GB storage with 2GB of RAM, and 32GB storage with 3GB of RAM.

The Redmi 4A looks nearly similar to most of Xiaomi's Redmi lineup.

The Redmi 5A has been launched at a starting price of Rs 4,999 for the base 2GB RAM/16GB storage version.

The device has a 5-inch fully-laminated HD display with 1280×720 pixel resolution and houses 3000 mAh battery. Otherwise, the smartphone isn't too much of an upgrade over its popular budget predecessor, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, which still retails in the country for Rs 5,999. In our testing of the device, we found that MIUI 9 helps optimize the RAM usage on the Redmi 5A, enhancing user experience. Turn it around and you will see a slightly redesigned rear panel as opposed to that seen of the Redmi 4A - the speaker grille now shifts below the faux antenna line and so does the camera along with the LED flash.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with an Infrared Blaster. There is also expandable storage option up to 128GB via a dedicated microSD card. The front camera/selfie unit is a 5-Megapixel sensor with Smart and Pro beautify mode. The Redmi 5A will also be available in a 3GB RAM/32GB storage version that will cost buyers in India Rs 6,999. It'll hit Flipkart, the brand's site, and the Mi Home Store on 7 December at 12 pm before eventually making its way to other offline retailers.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat and powered by quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with 2GB/3GB RAM. The Redmi 4A also has a 5MP selfie camera, but the aperture size is different at f/2.2. However, Xiaomi is offering an additional discount of Rs 1,000 for the first 1 million customers of the 2GB/16GB variant, bringing its price down to Rs 4,999.
