The 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will be taking place in Shanghai, China, in less than two weeks but the lineup will not include supermodel Gigi Hadid.

According to Page Six, an insider disclosed that Perry - who was slated to perform and booked well in advance - had attempted to apply for a Chinese visa but was denied. "While she initially was informed that she'd be able to gain access, the decision apparently was reversed after the government caught wind of a controversial incident from 2015, in which Perry wore a bright, glittery dress with sunflowers on it during a performance in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan", Page Six wrote.

For any perspective performer, Chinese officials "comb through their social-media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country", the Page Six source said. In the clip, Hadid appears to be mocking Asian facial features while holding a cookie to her face.

The hashtag "GigiGetOutofChina" started trending and Hadid was forced to disable comments on her Instagram after being flooded with outraged posts and issued an official apology on China's Twitter-like microblogging platform Weibo in September. "Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!"

Bella Hadid is still scheduled to walk, and arrived in Shanghai this morning ahead of the show, which will be aired on November 28. Model Gigi Hadid confirmed her absence on Twitter.

Up until Thursday, it was understood that Gigi would be joining her sister and walking the show for the third year in a row. "May this be a lesson for her. Apologies doesn't erase the actions".

This could also explain the speculation about why Gigi Hadid suddenly announced yesterday that she's no longer walking in the VS Fashion Show.

Victoria's Secret didn't immediately respond to WWD's request for comment.

Model Adriana Lima's visa has been held up due to an ongoing "diplomatic problem".

Malik, 24, and Gigi Hadid began dating in 2015 after he attended that year's Victoria's Secret fashion show in NY.
