Police officer, militant killed in Zakura gunfight


The police have apprehended one terrorist, while two others managed to escape.

Three militants travelling in a vehicle opened fire on a police team at the Zakura crossing on Srinagar-Ganderbal road, killing sub-inspector Imran Tak and injuring a special police officer (SPO), the official said. "His body has reached his home and we have started further investigation", he said.

A militant has been reportedly arrested by cops at the firing spot.

Reports said Mugees was presently affiliated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind led by Zakir Musa from South Kashmir. Mir joined militancy almost two years ago and was now affiliated with Zakir Musa-led Ansar ul Gazwat ul Hind, police said.

"Both the militants were together at the time of the shootout. He succumbed while fleeing", said a police officer. "The combing operation was going on", the police officer said.

He said a suspected militant, who was with militants in the vehicle intercepted by forces, has been taken into custody.

A massive hunt has been launched by security forces in the area to nab the militants; they said adding additional security forces have been rushed there.

IGP Kashmir Muneer Khan said there was a shootout between police party and militants in the area.
