Is Mario Ready to Return to the Big Screen Soon?

After more than two decades, Nintendo is finally going to try and make another Super Mario Bros. movie.

A pipeline of popular "Super Mario" games have hit the market recently, with the mobile "Super Mario Run" and the Switch's "Super Mario Odyssey".

The companies denied comment on the report Tuesday by the Wall Street Journal. However if the movie is successful, and with the brand recognition of Mario it should be, then more could be made.

Nintendo is reportedly in the late stages of talks with Minions animation studio Illumination to secure the license to create an animated Super Mario Bros. movie. Perhaps he can break the video game curse? It likely won't be released for several years.

Reported by the Wall Street Journal, a Mario themed animated movie is in the works. Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. games and spinoffs have sold more than 330 million units. This can be the next awaited animated film of Hollywood.

Therefore, Nintendo wants to make sure that it has an appropriate amount of creative input if this Mario movie is to be made.

Currently, Illumination's production slate includes a number of sequels to its existing properties, including Minions 2, Sing 2, The Secret Life of Pets 2, and a take on Dr. Seuss' The Grinch. It starred Bob Hoskins in the leading role, with John Leguizamo as his brother Luigi.
