Deliberations Begin For Rape Case Over Nicki Minaj's Brother

Washington D.C.: Rapper Nicki Minaj's older brother, Jelani Maraj was convicted, on Thursday, of repeatedly raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter in their Long Island home.

Maraj had consistently denied the allegations, but a jury convicted him of endangering the welfare of a child and of predatory sexual assault on a child younger than 13 at a court in Nassau County, New York, the DA's spokesperson Brendon Brosh told People magazine. Robinson, who filed for divorce past year (16), denied the allegations during her testimony, while the court also heard evidence from the alleged victim and her younger brother, who claimed he walked in on Maraj assaulting the girl.

The accuser, who is now 14, testified that 38-year-old Maraj anally raped her, slapped her in the face and ordered her to remain silent about his actions.

Maraj did not appear to react when the verdict was read in a Nassau County courtroom.

The first sexual assault occurred in April 2015, just before the victim's mother married Maraj in a $30,000 ceremony paid for by Minaj, officials charged.

Juror Arthur Naclerio, 67, of Massapequa, said the victim's testimony was the most convincing piece of evidence.

The 38-year-old, who has been out on bond, was immediately taken into custody and held without bail. The girl testified that Maraj treated her as his own daughter before he began raping her. "The amount of evidence we have that wasn't allowed in this case is unbelievable". I've never seen anything like it. Initial reports claimed she would testify in her brother's defense, but she ended up not doing so. She later fired Ray as her attorney.

On December 1, 2015, Maraj was arrested on charges of predatory assault, second-degree course of sexual conduct and a misdemeanor charge of acting in a manner likely to injure a child.

Naclerio, the only juror who spoke after the trial, said the victim's mother's alleged comment about money could have been "about a lot of different things", including "how much it was going to cost them in lawyer fees".
