Veterans Day Parade to be held Friday

This year, veterans from all branches of service and theaters will once again ride in the parade.

The Veterans Day parade is always held in the 11th month, on the 11th day and during the 11th hour. "The Veterans Day Parade is an acknowledgment of the indebtedness we have to our veterans, as well as a celebration of appreciation.We invite the entire community to honor our veterans by attending this year's parade".

God has blessed us with this great nation and He has blessed us with the veterans who secure the freedom that we share today.

Patrons lined up along Universal City Boulevard to Bowie Street to view the 47th annual Universal City Veterans Parade on November 4. Norman Sanderson, R-Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties; and Rep. Michael Speciale, R-Craven and Pamlico. Marching bands from Mansfield Senior High School, St. Peter's High School and Clear Fork High School will also participate. The community is encouraged to attend the parade to celebrate the men and women who have served in the USA military. Along with area veterans groups, there will be an assortment of fire trucks and military equipment.

After the parade, the Andrews Veterans Association led a ceremony to honor veterans and their families at the Library Pavilion behind the Andrews Public Library.

This observance originated as "Armistice Day in 1919, commemorating the end of World War I. It was an annual observance as Armistice Day until 1938, when it became a National Holiday to honor our Veterans who have served our country". A complimentary meal will be served to the veterans after the program.
