The College Football Playoff is coming to the Midwest.

Indianapolis' game in January 2022 will mark the first time the event is held outside the South or West. Los Angeles' game in January 2023 will be at the $2.6 billion National Football League stadium now under construction there. Volunteers coach Butch Jones didn't specify the nature of the injury that knocked Kendrick out of the Kentucky game.

Lucas Oil Stadium and NRG Stadium also have hosted NCAA men's basketball Final Fours.

"Los Angeles is a world-class city with a great record as sensational hosts to college football championships, Olympics, Super Bowls and other top events", said Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP.

"Between the community events, fan experiences and the game itself, the College Football Playoff National Championship will bring more than 100,000 visitors to Indy in 2022", said Leonard Hoops, president and CEO of Visit Indy.

In addition to the previously announced sites of Santa Clara, Calif., and New Orleans for the championship games after the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the CFP awarded the event to Miami, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Houston for the 2020 through 2023 seasons, in that order.

There is no bidding process to host a CFP title game. "We have done that." said Hancock.

This will be the first time the College Football Playoff National Championship is played in the Los Angeles region. "We are looking forward to welcoming college football's finest in 2024".

AT&T Stadium hosted the first championship game in January 2015 with the hopes of landing several more with the appeal of the stadium and central location of the Dallas-Fort Worth market. "Also, the community provides a state-of-the-art stadium, top-flight convention center and a centralized, "walkable" downtown that our fans will love".
