Gas prices on the rise in IL

IN now has the sixth highest gas price average at $2.75 per gallon.

The Kentucky average price was listed at $2.429/gallon, and the national average was $2.508.

$2.08/g in 2016, $2.26/g in 2015, $3.11/g in 2014, $3.15/g in 2013 and $3.29/g in 2012.

"Gas prices are usually like Daylight Saving Time", DeHaan said. "As refineries continue autumn maintenance, we may continue to see gasoline inventories under pressure, with a mixed bag of increases and decreases in the weeks ahead until the conclusion of such maintenance". "It the case of Exxon Joliet refinery, (It's) nearly two-and-a-half times the size of the Co-op refinery we have in Regina, that has gone through maintenance as did two other refineries".

Part of the blame could even be placed on our hurricane season as some refiners pushed back maintenance to cover production losses from the affected area.

In addition, the Explorer Pipeline from the Gulf Coast which transports 700,000 barrels per day to the midwest had a leak last week. Prices in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and IL are expected to hit the highest levels since 2015. These issues have pushed gasoline inventories to their lowest levels in more than two years.

However good news is on the horizon as McTeague said what goes up, must come down.

A year ago saw some of our lowest gas prices in the past decade with gas prices barely rising to the $2.00 mark throughout the first half of 2016.

DeHaan says the fix could be completed in a few days, but that it will still take more maintenance to set it right.

Gas Buddy expects the Explorer Pipeline to be fixed within the next few days, but it could be even longer before gasoline flows return to normal.
