EA are making changes to Battlefront 2's progression system after community backlash

EA and DICE have announced that they have made changes to crates and progression based on player's feedback. Subscribers to Origin Access (PC) and EA Access (Xbox One) can play the game for 10 hours starting on November 9th.

"A few weeks ago, we mentioned we were going to take another look at how the progression system works and after incorporating community feedback, we're happy to share our plans for launch", the studio added. Those are the highest tier of Star Cards available (at least, at launch), and will now primarily be acquired through "crafting".

While this might not be everything fans were hoping to hear, DICE have also revealed that they will be changing things while the game is being played.

Locking weapons behind milestones is also a change that I much prefer, as someone who found the Hutt Contracts system within the 2015 version of Battlefront to be compelling. "That meant transporting you to all three eras and handing you a huge assortment of heroes, classes, and vehicles - as well as bringing tons of free post-launch content to all Star Wars Battlefront II players". Certain "special" Epic Star Cards are exceptions, as they are only available through "pre-order, deluxe, and starter packs".

"This system, as well as all of the others, will be continually iterated on and improved". However, EA does say "a select few" weapons will still be available in boxes. Many players were concerned that the game's loot boxes would result in pay-to-win scenarios, where spending more money would give you an edge.

Being able to craft Epic Star Cards would leave open the possibility that someone buys a bunch of Crates, turns the received items into materials, and then crafts Epic cards. Play classes, get weapons. They'll include "a mix of Star Cards and Crafting Parts" relevant to your preferred class.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has now gone gold, ready for its November 17th release date. After all, outcry was the reason the game will have a single-player campaign mode and an terrible lot more depth.
