Didn't accept Modi's Kedarnath proposal due to 'circumstances': Ex-Uttarakhand CM

According to reports, nearby areas of the temple were destroyed in 2013 after the Chorabari Glacier lake breached following heavy rainfall that caused flash floods in the river Mandakini.

Jan Seva is Prabhu Seva (Taking care of the people is equal to taking care of god). "I was disappointed. But the Baba (Kedarnath) wanted his son (Modi) only to undertake the reconstruction activities", Modi quipped, while offering Rudrabhishek prayers at the temple a day before it closes for the winter.

The JSW group and Narendra Modi who were at Kedarpuri on the eve of Diwali were only more than happy to be there at the occasion as the project is an ambitious one for the company and the project would serve to be a happy journey to the pilgrims. "I convey my greetings to everyone around the world who mark the start of Nutan Varsh", he added.

However, the reconstruction plan did not materialise and today, PM Narendra Modi accused the then Congress government of Uttarakhand and the UPA at the Centre for rejecting his reconstruction proposal.

The PM also laid the foundation stones for a slew of reconstruction projects in Kedarpuri, including renovation of Adi Guru Shankaracharya's tomb which was devastated in the catastrophic flash floods of 2013. He is said to have been frequenting the pilgrimage town every year before becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat. PM Modi spoke at length about building quality infrastructure in Kedarnath, while preserving traditional ethos. We will ensure the environment is not damaged.
