Ben Simmons Impresses On NBA Debut

The 76ers 6'10 point forward, Ben Simmons, made his National Basketball Association debut last night against the Washington Wizards after sitting out all of last season while recovering from foot surgery to fix a Jones fracture. He did get the fans out of their seats a few times, showing flashes of his athleticism as he got out in transition. It would have been better if we got the win, but it's the first game.

Fellow rookie Markelle Fultz came off the bench to add 10 points and three rebounds, while Joel Embiid led the way with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

"It felt like I was playing 2K, honestly", Simmons said. For perspective, he shot 65 percent on free throws in college - not a good number for a guard, but certainly more respectable than what he's done with the Sixers. Oh well. If Bayless can get the ball to an open Simmons under the basket in the final minute, or if Covington can swing a pass to an open Bayless in the corner a possession later - both passes were deflected and stolen - the game may have ended very differently.

John Wall and Bradley Beal were their usual selves in Game 1 of the season.

LaMarcus Aldridge scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs over visiting Minnesota 107-99, while Damian Lillard netted 27 to power the Portland Trail Blazers to a 124-76 triumph at Phoenix. It's not gonna be long before the Philadelphia 76ers are the team that makes the rest of the East go "Oh crap, we have to play them on opening night?"
