Israel Strikes Hamas Post After Gaza Rocket Fire

No injuries were reported in the Sunday evening attack, the Israel Defence Forces spokesman said.

The Israeli army spokesperson said, on Twitter, that a tank targeted the outpost in response to a rocket that was sacked from Gaza earlier in the evening, which landed in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council of southern Israel and caused no injuries or damages.

"The seizure constitutes another attempt by Hamas to abuse Israeli civilian policy toward the residents of the Gaza Strip", said head of the liaison to Gaza, Col. Fares Attila.

The group has observed a de-facto ceasefire with Israel since a 2014 war, but small armed cells of jihadist Salafis have continued to occasionally launch rockets at Israel.

The IDF Spokesperson Unit said that the rocket exploded in Gaza territory and stated that the attack constitutes a threat to the security of Israeli citizens.

Earlier Saturday, Hamas said it had arrested four senior Islamic State members, including the group's leader in the coastal enclave.

The West Bank and the Gaza Strip have remained politically and administratively divided since 2007, when Hamas wrested control of the strip from Fatah following several days of street fighting.
