Sylvester Stallone back in the ring for "Creed" sequel

Stallone earned a best supporting actor Academy Award nomination for his work in Creed, and won a Golden Globe in that category.

Now it looks like they found their director.

"Creed" was directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Aaron Covington as a spinoff and sequel to the Rocky film series. Stallone is not only reprising his role as Rocky for the eighth time, he'll also write and direct the sequel! Ryan Coogler's "Creed" was one of the smartest, most original franchise reboots to come out of Hollywood.

Variety reports Stallone broke the news on his Instagram with a photo of himself and Creed star Michael B. Jordan.

Creed 2 will apparently begin shooting next year, potentially for release in 2019, we guess? "2018 #Creed 2 #mgm #fitness #Rocky (sic)". Coogler wasn't able to return to direct the sequel, but he will remain with the sequel as an executive producer. Recently, there was a recent rumor that Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) would be facing the son of Ivan Drago for Creed 2.

Sylvester Stallone will be doing more than playing Rocky Balboa in "Creed 2". One thing is for sure, Stallone is no slouch when it comes to directing, so the excitement is peculating.

Stallone's social media feed is now the only source for this news, though we're expecting further announcements to come in the day tomorrow and in the weeks ahead.

This makes us so happy.
