Ronaldo, Messi lead shortlist

The prestigious award, which was aligned with Federation Internationale de Football Association from 2010 to 2015, has been won by either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi for the past nine years.

From winning Ballon d'Ors to clinching the historic UEFA Euro with Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo is a player, who has accomplished everything the world of football has to offer in club and country both.

France Football magazine has announced a list of 30 nominees for the 2017 Ballon dOr that includes Barcelonas Lionel Messi, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain.Also among the final 10 nominees were PSGs Edinson Cavani, Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels, reports Efe.

Others in the list are Luka Modric, Paulo Dybala, Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak and Napoli striker Dries Mertens.

Neymar has been confirmed as one of the first five players on the 30-man Ballon d'Or shortlist for the 2017 award.

Harry Kane was nominated for the prestigious award for the first time.

David de Gea, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane, Kevin de Bruyne and N'Golo Kante, have also been chosen.

While Ronaldo has been the world's best on two different occasions and going back to the same old debate that he has tasted success in Manchester United, one can fairly reckon the fact that he knows more about the Premier League than his Balon D'Or counterpart, someone who started his journey at Las Masia and is expected to end at the same place.

According to the new rules, media representatives will vote for their best player from a pool of 30 nominated footballers, and there will be no announcement of three finalists before the award is presented to the victor.
