Woman in BMW shot dead after allegedly striking Miami Beach officer, cars


Officers are investigating a shooting and a crash near 12th Street and Washington Avenue in Miami Beach Sunday evening, police said.

The incident happened amid a busy holiday weekend in Miami Beach, as people dined at sidewalk cafes and beachgoers walked off the sand.

The woman tried speeding away in the black BMW as witnesses in the city's festive entertainment district yelled at her to stop, according to local reports.

A woman was hospitalized after being struck by a auto in North Miami Beach.

Police investigate a wrecked auto after its driver was fatally shot by a Miami Beach police officer. The driver lost control and then struck a parked white SUV on the east corner of 12th Street and Washington Avenue.

The woman, who has yet to be identified, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The officer who was struck was listed in stable condition late Sunday after losing consciousness "for a period of time", Oates told NBC Miami.

First responders pulled her from the mangled auto and rushed her to a nearby hospital.

Tourists having dinner said it all started with an initial crash on Ocean Drive, though police have not yet confirmed the first collision.

"One of the cops was in front of the vehicle and when they were yelling at her to get out of the auto, she just started the vehicle again", said Miguel Garcia, a witness.

"Like four or five times", Garcia said.

She then proceeded to drive her auto into another parked vehicle, before being shot by police.

Two women visiting from Philadelphia told the Miami Herald that they were eating at a restaurant on Ocean Drive when they saw a vehicle smack into the back of a truck.
