The much-awaited trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum-opus Padmavati is finally out. For those of you who don't know, 1303 AD was when the eight-month long siege of Chittor by Sultan Alauddin Khilji (played by Ranveer Singh) took place.

Padmavati is a film about Rani Padmini who was the most handsome woman in history.

The making of Padmavati, directed by Sanjay Leela Bahnsali, has been fraught with controversies since it was announced.

"Ranveer, Deepika and Shahid tweeted ahead of the trailer release, "#PadmavatiTrailer arrives today at 13:03.

With Padmavati a story about passion, love and warfare, one can't help but draw comparisons to Sanjay's previous films like Ram Leela. The first trailer of Padmavati presents glimpses of each character, showing their strength and weakness.

Shahid Kapoor's last box-office outing ended up being a damp squib.

Shahid as the Rajput King, Maharaja Rawal Ratan Singh looks like he's meant to sit on the throne, while Deepika as an elegant and fierce queen.

The movie is based on the poem of Padmavat by Sufi poet Malik Muhammed Jayasi that narrates the tale of Padmavati and Ratan Singh of Chittor. As a large chunk of the trailer features a monologue from Kapoor's character on the spirit of being a Rajput, Padukone's character is seen symbolically helping her husband uphold the pride of the Rajput clan. I don't think any Bollywood actor would have managed to bring such an intensity which Ranveer Singh has put into the role.

Padmavati also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh. Even the first posters of the film that were released and the trailer that was launched on October 9, 2017 was all in agreement with the vast history of the country that will be portrayed through the film.

The trailer has impressed us and now, we are eagerly waiting for the film to hit the theaters on December 1.
