New Pixel smartphone headlines Google device launch

The HTC-made Pixel 2 features a Full HD OLED display just shy of 5-inches at 16:9.

While the spec sheet doesn't mention the rear camera, it does state that the front camera is an 8MP f/2.4 sensor.

Pixelbook is the thinnest and lightest laptop that Google has ever made.

Both models continue to include fingerprint scanners on the back while competitors shift to either integrating biometrics into the screens or using facial recognition to authenticate users.

It's about time that we all witness the launch of Google's long-rumored Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL handsets that has been making rounds on the internet for quite some time now. They should last for five hours on a single charge. Pixel 2 XL also features a "squeezable" body, another feature reported prior to its release, which allows a user to simply apply pressure to the sides of the device in order to trigger Google Assistant. Building on the original Pixel phones, the new smartphones feature refined designs, improved performance and great imaging capabilities. It features a 12.3-inch touchscreen high-resolution display. You can access Google Assistant by tapping or pressing on the right earbud, and the Assistant will be able to read notifications and messages to you through the Buds.

While they aren't as easy to lose, Google's Pixel Buds also come with a little battery case that looks a little too much like the Apple's solution. The two phones would seem to be identical-save for the larger screen on the Pixel 2 XL-and they both run Android 8.0.

The Google Home Mini unveiled Wednesday is a button-sized speaker covered in fabric.

The new speaker, which responds to voice commands using artificial intelligence, is less than half the price of Google's first generation speaker and makes this "more accessible to more people", said Google hardware designer Isabelle Olsson. The Pixelbook and Pixel Pen will be available for pre-order later today in Canada, with the exception of Quebec, although Google says it is working to bring the device to the province in the future.

The third product coming from Google's portfolio today is the Google Pixelbook. Google is offering the new phones through Verizon, though customers on other carriers can buy the phones through the Google stores. Its design is expected to be largely similar to the Google Pixel, and the company could remove a 3.5mm headphone port from the phone, relying exclusively on the USB Type-C port for charging, data transfer, and audio.

The launch comes in the wake of Apple's announcement of a new line of iPhones, and Amazon's upgrades to its Echo speakers powered by its Alexa digital assistant.

The standard Pixel 2 is available in three colors: Kinda Blue, Just Black, and Clearly White.
