Ghana thrash Nigeria 4-1 to win WAFU Cup

"We are aware that the task will not be easy as Ghana Nigeria encounter is always a hard one, but we are braced for the challenge they will bring on board".

Ghana was awarded another penalty kick after Nigerian defenders infringed Patrick Razak and Sarfo stepped up to convert the spot kick in the 77th minute.

Nigeria went into the encounter unbeaten with Super Eagles' goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa hoping to finish the tournament without conceding a goal, but he was badly exposed by Nigerian defenders and his wings were clipped.

The second half started with Nigeria threatening Ghana's goal but after some spurned chances from both sides, Vincent Atinga made it 2-0 in the 59th minute.

Nigeria did find some consolation with a goal of their own courtesy of a 22-yard free-kick from Rabiu Ali which found the top corner of the net, but it was too little too late as the game ended 4-1. "The boys did well throughout the tournament but its sad that they lost at the end but that is the way the game is".

However, Niger had claimed the bronze medal earlier in the day after it beat Benin 2-1 in third place game.

Ten minutes later Charbel Gomez was in the thick of the action again with another powerful long range shot which the Niger keeper spilled into the path of Jacques Bessan, but he fired wide from close range.
