LACETT | Cards drop in new AP poll after loss to Clemson

Oklahoma State (3-0) is ranked sixth with Washington (3-0) close behind.

The Crimson Tide claimed 59 of 65 first-place votes after handling Colorado State. Alabama remains No. 1. Even as the team loses stars such as defensive lineman Jonathan Allen and linebacker Reuben Foster to the National Football League, the defense doesn't skip a beat. Buyer beware on that front, though, as they will face No. 1 Alabama (home), No. 24 Florida (road), No. 13 Georgia (home) and undefeated Ole Miss (road) the next four weeks.

FSU fell from No. 11 to No. 12 despite not playing once again due to Hurricane Irma. If the SEC is going to reassert itself as the best conference in the country - a title that belonged to the ACC previous year - LSU and Auburn have to live up to their rankings, and both have already failed their first real tests.

The Seminoles remain the second highest rated ACC team behind No. 2 Clemson. Vandy averaged 4.9 yards per play, K-State 4.4. Early in the season it is especially easy to trash resumes because the top teams have played so few games against opponents who have even remotely comparable talent.

Stock up: Oklahoma State.

USC entered the season with huge expectations and was No. 4 in the preseason rankings.

Arkansas: Received 1 point, meaning 1 coach voted Arkansas exactly 25th, and yes, Bret Bielema has a vote.

Sam Darnold, one of the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy in 2017, struggled with two interceptions and no passing touchdowns in the win. They earned the No. 14 slot this week after being ranked 17 a week ago. The Horned Frogs moved into the No. 16 spot, up four places from No. 20 last week, as a result of a dominant 56-36 victory over SMU.
