Nike's New Smart NBA Jerseys Are Evidence We're in the Future

CLEVELAND- Nike introduced its "Statement Edition" uniforms for the NBA's 30 teams Friday night. It's not yet clear how often teams will wear these new uniforms, but hopefully it's a lot because they sure are pretty sharp.

This season, National Basketball Association teams will wear alternate "Statement" Nike uniforms to make bold statements for big games and rivalry matchups.

Nike unveiled the new uni's in grand fashion as they invited one player from each team to model their respective cities. However, they're of course all Nike branded now, and some include subtle changes beyond that.

The uniforms are part of a 3 part collection including the Nike NBA Connected Jersey, Statement Edition uniforms and the Nike Therma Flex Showtime Warm-up Jacket. Players will also reportedly have the ability to release messages only to those who have bought their jersey, rather than broadcasting something on social media.

The new system, called NikeConnect, is part of both the Swingman jersey and the authentic jerseys that will be available for fans to purchase for $110 and $200, respectively, on September 29.

At the event, Nike had a representative player from every team come out in a hoodie to hide the new jerseys. Throughout the season, a wealth of exclusive offers and experiences will bring fans closer to the game they love. Another fourth uniform is expected to be unveiled before the new season begins.
