Ryan murder: Haryana government orders CBI probe, takes over school management


After visiting the grief-stricken family of seven-year-old Pradyuman Thakur - a Class II student of Ryan International School who was found with his throat slit in the school washroom last Friday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday recommended CBI probe into the gruesome murder.

"This incident (the murder of Pradhyumn) was unfortunate".

Talking to India Today, an inconsolable Varun Thakur said, "I do not wish this misfortune upon anyone".

Talking to reporters after meeting the parents of slain student Pradyuman, Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar said though the Haryana Police was leaving no stone unturned to crack the case, the state government in deference to the sentiments and wishes of the parents and of the people was handing over the case to the CBI. "I appeal to the CBI to investigate the case as expeditiously as possible", Khattar said. They also accused the school management of negligence.

"The Haryana Police has been properly conducting a probe in this case".

Besides Harpal Singh, the SIT has questioned 17 persons including section in-charge Anju Dudeja, suspended acting principal Neerja Batra, former principal Rakhi Verma, bus driver Saurabh Raghav, bus contractor Harkesh Pradhan and eight security guards.

The management of the school has also been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the murder.

"In future, the schools should ensure that such incidents did not occur in their premises", he said. His wife claims he has been forced to make the confession.

He added that the Haryana government has made a decision to amend the Act related to rules and regulations for safety of students in schools in the ensuing Vidhan Sabha session.

"If any school does not comply with the prescribed rules, the state government can take over the school concerned and strict action will be initiated", he said. He added that he had directed the CBI to probe the alleged murder, which took place near the school toilet.
