Following a string of low scores, Yuvraj Singh was on Sunday dropped from the India squad for the upcoming five-match one-day global series and one-off T20I against Sri Lanka, starting August 20.

The selectors made a decision to rest four frontline bowlers - Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. Talented Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey has made his come back in the national team.

Another significant announcement was the appointment of Rohit Sharma as the vice-captain of the team. The team also includes young spinners - Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal with Axar Patel to support them.

Manish Pandey, who had a successful outing as the India "A" captain recently in a tri-series involving South Africa and Afghanistan, makes his comeback to the Indian squad after his absence from the Champions Trophy side due to injury.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, batsmen Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan retain their place.

The five-match ODI series will start at Dambulla on 20 August.

Bumrah and Rohit, who has also been named the vice-captain of the team, return to the squad after being rested for the series against West Indies.

After the ODI series, both sides will lock horns for a lone T20I at the R Premadasa Stadium on 6 September.
