Paul Scholes questions Chelsea's decision of selling Matic to Man United

"At 29, I can understand why Chelsea sold him but it's still a good signing for Man United as there are not many of those players about".

Jose Mourinho led United to glory in the Europa League and EFL Cup in his debut season in charge at Old Trafford last term.

Matic wanted a place where he could get first team football and United provided that, along with a £40 million transfer fee.

Matic made a decision to call time on his second spell at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea emerged victorious in their chase of ex-Monaco man Tiemoue Bakayoko.

There has been an exodus of talent from Monaco's ranks in recent months, and as Paris Saint-Germain add Neymar and Dani Alves, the French champions are severely weakened.

"Matic knows very well what I think about him - the importance for me about this player, who is a really good player, a top player, very important for our team", Conte said.

"There's responsibility on Bakayoko not just to bring the talents that he has - and he has many - but also the discipline to fit into the system".

Who could Chelsea replace Matic with?

It comes with the habit of playing in that kind of situation, of playing with better players.

The 23-year-old is not the finished article, but his energy and physical presence make his ideal for the Premier League. He's a very select player who's a top, top striker, but when the position goes so far it's hard to put it back. All of a sudden United are in the driving seat ahead of Chelsea to win the Premier League.

"I think he's very similar in a way to Michael Carrick in a controlling midfielder, but what he brings what Michael doesn't bring is a little bit of aggression which as I say he gets to the ball, he tackles, he allows other people to play".

"I was surprised to see him move to United and maybe there is more to this deal that we realise", said new BT Sport pundit Lampard. You have to have faith in the manager.
