JJ Abrams Is Developing A RuPaul Biopic Series Called 'Queen' For Hulu

Hulu will help to develop a TV show based on RuPaul's life and it already has a tentative title - Queen.

The project, tentatively titled Queen, is a fictionalized version of RuPaul's rise from club kid to drag queen, gay icon, and global star.

A few days ago RuPaul mentioned in an interview that there was a TV show about his early life in the works, adding that JJ Abrams was behind it and Willow Smith could play him.

RuPaul will executive produce along with Gary Lennon, who will also write the script. Abrams and Ben Stephenson will executive produce through Abrams' Bad Robot banner.

RuPaul Andre Charles became a household name during the Reagan administration, first becoming a fixture on the NY nightclub circuit and later scoring national success with the song and music video for "Supermodel (You Better Work)". He rocketed to fame after the release of his first single, "Supermodel (You Better Work)". He has been the host of RuPaul's Drag Race and multiple spinoffs since 2009'. Tom Campbell, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato will executive produce through World of Wonder. RuPaul won his first Emmy in 2016 and is nominated again for outstanding reality host. Abrams' Bad Robot has landed at Hulu for development. It will be set in New York City during the Reagan era.
