Girl's body found after mother crashes vehicle on way to Buffalo

A 37-year-old Florida woman who has admitted killing her 11-year-old daughter was driving to Buffalo with the child's body in her truck when she crashed into a guard rail Sunday in West Virginia, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel.

From there witnesses observed Newsome dragging the girl's body into the woods before police apprehended the woman. Newsome says her plan was to drive all the way to Buffalo, New York, to see the girl's father.

State Police Sgt. Herby Barlow told the Pocahontas Times that it was "obvious" that Plummer didn't die as a result of the accident. "Her injuries were non-motor vehicle injuries".

After the crash, an older couple from NY says they saw Newsome carrying her daughter over an embankment.

Newsome told authorities her side of the story. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the chid's death.

Newsome is being held on $50,000 bail in West Virginia while the investigation into the crime continues there and in Florida.

The sheriff's office said, "At this time, foul play is suspected in the child's death and we believe the death occurred in Jacksonville, Florida".

Jacksonville deputies were in West Virginia Monday to review evidence as part of their ongoing investigation.

West Virginia State Police say Erica Newsome crashed her vehicle Sunday morning in the Allegheny Mountains, and witnesses reported they saw her trying to hide her daughter's body by a hill.

Told the father, '...she was calling along the trip acting like everything was OK'.

Plummer said he married Newsome in 2007, but the couple broke-up only two years later. He said he hadn't seen them since Newsome moved with Kaye-lea to Jacksonville in 2014, but he would check on his daughter regularly by phone.

The father told WJXT4, "We didn't always agree on everything, but she was a great mother".

"Some illness, some sickness that got into her- that's the only explanation I could think of because Erica didn't do that", Plummer said. "Something is very, very wrong. She needs help. She really needs help". The woman said she was heading for Buffalo, N.Y., where the child's father lives. Cops haven't yet said if they now intend to press murder charges. Neither Erica now Kaye-lea didn't make it NY.
