MTV unveils performers for 2017 VMAs

MTV just unveiled its list of verified A-list performers and while it does not disappoint, it does come with a few surprises.

Other artistes slated to perform include band 30 Seconds to Mars, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes, Fifth Harmony, Ed Sheeran and Lorde.

Sheeran is nominated for artist of the year along with Lamar, Mars, Ariana Grande, Lorde and the Weeknd. Perry will also be serving as the host. They prevailed in three out of their four previous bids, including Song of the Summer ("All in My Head") and Best Collaboration ("Work from Home" with Ty Dolla Sign) a year ago.

Kendrick Lamar is the top VMA contender with eight nominations. Maybe she'll even bring out backpack boy again like she did at that freakish, but wildly entertaining, Saturday Night Live performance.

Katy Perry and The Weeknd are also set to perform on the night, and they could be in front of the audience a lot more as they both have five nominations each.
