In addition, the film will also feature Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as the voices of Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog, respectively, with political commentator and comedian John Oliver set to voice the red-billed hornbill Zazu.

Kani's casting comes just a few hours after Luke Cage actress Alfre Woodard was confirmed to join the pic as Sarabi, Simba's mother and Mufasa's wife. Madge Sinclair played the role in the original animated film.

Starting with Rafiki, The Wrap is reporting that John Kani, who played Black Panther's father King T'Chaka in Captain America: Civil War, will voice the baboon in this live-action version of The Lion King.

The Oscar nominee (for 1983's "Cross Creek") will be voicing the regal lioness Sarabi, joining Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones, who will be reprising his role as Mufasa.

Jeff Nathanson (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) wrote the script for Disney, with Favreau and Jeffrey Silver producing.
