Washoe County Health District Says Air in Unhealthy Range

Anyone who has ventured outside over the last couple of days has no doubt noticed the haze that is blanketing the Central Washington sky.

The National Weather Service is forecasting northwest winds, which may bring additional smoke into our area from local wildfires that may cause the air quality to deteriorate into the unhealthy range for the Klamath Basin, Chiloquin and Fort Klamath.

"The unhealthy air quality can make it hard to breathe, even for healthy people", environmental health specialist Judy Olsen said in a Health Department news release.

The health department is so concerned about the air quality that it's asking any sports teams to cancel outdoor practice and advising people to not exercise outdoors.

The region's air quality alert continues through Saturday.

The environmental agency rated the air quality in Albany on Thursday afternoon as unhealthy for sensitive groups. The conditions were upgraded to unhealthy Wednesday morning and downgraded at noon back to unhealthy for sensitive groups.
