AC Milan are reportedly "on the verge" of signing Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata, having made a €70 million (£61.3 million) offer for the Spaniard.

But, Manchester United hijacked Chelsea's move for Romelu Lukaku and the Blues are now being linked with three major strikers.

But if the 24-year-old is to leave Madrid for Chelsea, former Spain midfielder Gazika Mendieta is adamant he will fit right into Antonio Conte's system.

Herrera is quoted as saying by Metro: "I even started to think I'd be playing with Morata".

Alexis has finally declared his wish to play Champions League football this week, seemingly ending any hopes of agreeing a deal to keep him with the club into the coming season.

"He and Madrid a year ago didn't want it to happen. It is a pity he is not with us, but he is a top striker and will be a success wherever he is".

Lukaku's arrival has not stopped rumours that United could still be interested in Morata, although there are now other areas of Jose Mourinho's team that he would sooner strengthen.

"What I said today is what I say today".

Milan looks the favourites though, with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that they have intensified negotiations for the striker and are 'a step away' from completing a big-money deal.

"Evidently we are still thinking of doing something in that position".

"I don't like to speak about players who aren't ours because Morata is not our player". So of course I saw myself with him. "They desperately wanted [to stay at] Milan, so that was the simple key to it all".
