Vijay sustained a wrist injury during the home Tests against Australia, playing three of the four matches before revealing he was severely hampered by a fracture that required surgery and forced him to sit out the Indian Premier League.
Vijay had suffered a wrist injury during Australia's tour of India, and this news will be another setback for the opener, who was looking to perform well in the island nation. "The BCCI medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program", added the Indian cricket board. The 31-year-old, an ODI regular, has so far played 23 Tests in which he has 1464 runs at 38.52.
Dhawan, who played his last Test in October against New Zealand, has been in top form of late and ended the ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales as the leading run-getter.

Shikhar Dhawan has been named as replacement for Murali Vijay in the squad for Test series in Sri Lanka starting July 26.
India's tour of Sri Lanka will comprise of three Tests, five one-day internationals and one-off T20. The three Test matches will be played at Galle, Colombo and Kandy, respectively.
