IGN talked to Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter about the timeline of The Incredibles 2, and he confirmed that the sequel takes place immediately after the first.

When someone asks you to name your favorite Pixar movie, The Incredibles just rolls off your tongue, right? He continued, "It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece". But in the world of the movie's superhero family, no time has passed at all.

The Incredibles 2 will continue exploring what it means to be a family of superheroes that fight supervillains together. "This one carries on that theme", said Lasseter. "It's awesome, the idea we came up with - simple as that. We love to really look at our own lives and look at what's going on, and find themes that we know will resonate with the audience". Instead, Lasseter will stay on as executive producer while Cooley, who worked his way up the Pixar chain as an intern more than a decade ago, will take on the big job.

Released in 2004, the original The Incredibles featured Craig T. Nelson as the voice of Mr. What new conflicts will arise for the family that has finally come to terms with their super-abilities: Dash with his running and Violet with her new confidence?

Today (July 14) at the D23 Expo, it was announced that the sequel movie, The Incredibles 2, will be picking up right where it left off - with The Underminer.
