Sasikala bribe charge: Top police officer served notice

For those who have not heard about Rupa until yesterday when her revelation of Sasikala getting VIP treatment in Parapanna Agrahara prison for an alleged sum of Rs.2 crore, is the same officer who has arrested Uma Bharati when she was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Roopa had alleged that two crore rupees had changed hands for providing additional facilities to AIADMK general secretary, V K Sasikala, who is now lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail.

Meanwhile, CPI leader D Raja demanded a high level probe on the entire issue and said that its time that India moves towards jail reforms.

The DIG Prisons said she was ready to cooperate with the investigation called by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. I request all to await the outcome of this inquiry.

"Running away from the media would have been misconstrued and therefore I had to clarify as I gave the report". "But, repeatedly approaching the media is prohibited and we have issued a notice to DIG (Prisons) Roopa for violating the rules".

The report submitted by D Roopa to the director-general on July 12 alleged that special facilities were given to inmates including AIADMK leader Sasikala and fake stamp scam case convict Karim Telgi.

Mrs. Roopa told Deccan Chronicle in an exclusive interview that during her visit to Sasikala's cell, she had video recorded evidence on a handycam, which backed her claims of preferential treatment to Ms. Sasikala but the film was "deleted" by some officials in the prison.

Sources also said that DIG Roopa on Friday sent another report to Rao claiming that no action has been taken against the jail officials for encouraging illegal activities in the prison.

The DG (Prisons) had already rejected Roopa's allegations. Roopa, however, completely denies the allegation and insists that she never broke any rules.

Ms. Roopa said the DGP (Prisons) was the first to talk about the report.
