Alexis Sanchez back in Chile on holiday amid speculation over future

Alexis Sanchez has admitted for the first time that he wants to leave Arsenal in this summer's transfer window as he wants to play in the Champions League.

Sanchez has been the subject of protracted talks over a new deal since the early months of 2017 and has been a target for Manchester City and Bayern Munich this summer, as doubts have rumbled on over his future.

However, Wenger - in Australia for Arsenal's pre-season tour which continues against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday - is positive about Sanchez's future at Emirates Stadium. "My thoughts are always positive".

As reported by the Sun, Sanchez, who has attracted interest from the Gunners' Premier League rivals Man City, is now on holiday due to Chile's participation in the Confederations Cup, whilst his Arsenal teammates are on a pre-season tour of Australia. "There's not a lot to resolve at the moment with the player".

Arsene Wenger believes Alexis Sanchez will remain at Arsenal beyond the summer and is confident the Chile star will sign a new contract.

Reflecting on the rumours, though, Wenger said, as reported by the Gunners' official website: "Yes, 100% I expect him to stay".

"Usually you need three weeks but they will have a programme and can be involved after one week to ten days, and play a part in games".

The midfielder was a regular starter for Bournemouth where he played on loan last season but broke his leg midway through.

When asked recently if he planned to keep Sanchez, Wenger responded: 'Yes, that is a continuation of what I said at the end of the season.
